Course Synopsis

This a post qualifying course for counsellors who want to develop knowledge and skills relating to the therapeutic work with Children and Young people. It aims to provide a forum for you to develop as a reflective practitioner and explore working with children and young people whilst remaining within the philosophical underpinnings of your core training. This course will create strong foundations from which to develop and offer the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of working with children and young people. It is aligned with the BACP CYP Stage one training curriculum with elements of stage 2 providing the core Competences for Humanistic Counselling with children and young people aged 4-18 years. It will be assessed using a summative assessment in the form of a presentation aligned to the learning objectives.

  •   The needs of children and young people in counselling and psychotherapy services

  • The Skills required when working with children and young people.

  • Key professional and ethical issues concerning risk, safeguarding and collaborative assessment

  • The contextual and organisational factors in terms of delivering counselling and psychotherapy services

  • Working in the counselling relationship with key issues that impact on children and young people.

  • Creative approaches to working with Children and young people

Course Overview

DURATION

  • ·6 full days of tuition (across 3 months)

  • 2-4 hours of independent learning per week

ELIGIBILTY

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Already be a qualified, practising counsellor or psychotherapist, working within a recognised professional code of ethics.

  • Be a member of a relevant professional body.

  • Hold current professional indemnity insurance that covers your work as a practising counsellor or psychotherapist.

  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate

FEES

Your fee is inclusive of assessments, tuition, certificates, course materials and creative materials.

£550 for the full course.

 £50 (inc.) non-refundable deposit to book a place.

Can be paid in 2 instalments of £250

ASSESSMENT

This will be in the form of a 15-minute presentation, further details of which will be provided in the course materials when enrolled on the course

VENUE

Either fully remote via zoom or there is an opportunity for an in person creative activities weekend at RASA Education Training Centre, Bootle,LiverpoolL20 4TZ

    Developing Communication skills relevant to developmental stage/Forming and maintaining relationships.

    Trauma informed Practice with a focus on Adverse Childhood Experiences

    Preparing for endings and working with loss and bereavement

    Interprofessional working and the wider context of working with CYP

    Assessment Day/Sharing learning and Development via individual presentations

Supervising Children and Young People Counsellors/Psychotherapists

This a CPD workshop for counselling/psychotherapy supervisors. It aims to provide an opportunity to develop or refresh knowledge and skills relating to supervising the therapeutic work with Children and Young people. It will include developing knowledge and skills around working with key issues experienced by Children and Young People. It will explore the role of supervision in relation to the professional issues of risk, safeguarding, ethical and legal practice when working with Children and Young People.
